Feed In Tariff

The Feed-In Tariff Scheme (FITS) is part of the Clean Energy Cashback, a scheme introduced by the UK Government that pays people for creating their own "green electricity".

It came into effect in April 2009, allowing consumers who generate solar electricity through solar PV installation to sell their surplus energy back to the utilities companies at a higher rate than that at which they would buy energy from them!

It sounds too good to be true but there is logic behind it - electricity from non-renewable source is more expensive to generate than that from renewable sources. As such, and to encourage more use of renewables, the Government has committed to the Feed In Tariff.
